Briefings
A study by researchers at the Max Planck Institute, Dresden University of Technology, and the University of Portsmouth found that human and chimpanzee leaders consistently rate themselves as more risk-loving than their peers. The findings were published in The Leadership Quarterly on October 27, 2026, indicating a parallel behavioral pattern between primates and humans in leadership contexts.
Key points
- Leaders in both human and chimpanzee societies consistently rate themselves as more risk-loving than lower-ranking individuals.
- This pattern was observed in a study published in The Leadership Quarterly on October 27, 2026, by researchers at the Max Planck Institute, Dresden University of Technology, and the University of Portsmouth.
Context
Research from the Max Planck Institute, Dresden University of Technology, and the University of Portsmouth reveals that leadership positions correlate with higher self-reported risk-taking in both humans and chimpanzees, published in The Leadership Quarterly on October 27, 2026.
Limitations
The study covers only human and chimpanzee leadership behaviors; it does not include data on other species or specific risk outcomes. Results are based on self-reported perceptions rather than objective risk measures, limiting causal inference.
