Briefings

The Portuguese government announced a 50 euro increase in the reference value of the Solidarity Allowance for the Elderly (CSI) in the 2027 state budget, raising it to 720 euros. This adjustment aims to combat poverty and social exclusion among vulnerable elderly individuals, with a long-term goal of reaching 870 euros by 2029. The CSI supplements other income sources, and the 2024 rule change excluded children's income from calculations, expanding the beneficiary pool. As of August data, over 248,000 beneficiaries exist, with 60% being women, and the average monthly payment is 214.86 euros.
