Briefings

In October 2026, Donald Trump made multiple public remarks suggesting he may seek a third term, despite the 22nd Amendment prohibiting a single president from serving more than two terms. This statement occurred shortly after the 2026 election cycle concluded, with no official confirmation from the White House or the Supreme Court regarding his eligibility for a third term.

Key points

• Donald Trump publicly stated in October 2026 that he may seek a third term, contradicting the 22nd Amendment's prohibition on multiple terms.
• The 22nd Amendment explicitly forbids a single president from serving more than two terms, creating a legal barrier to Trump's potential third-term candidacy.

Context

This finding is significant as it highlights the tension between a former president's political ambitions and constitutional constraints. The 22nd Amendment, ratified in 1951, remains the primary legal obstacle to Trump's third-term pursuit.

Limitations

Evidence is limited to a single article from October 2026. No official statements from the White House or Supreme Court are provided. The article does not confirm Trump's eligibility, only his public remarks.
