Briefings

Florida Republican Patti Zirhut, a lifelong Trump supporter, is casting her vote for Donald Trump in 2024 despite her 2016 and 2020 votes. Zirhut is voting for a mix of Republicans, independents, and Democrats, but she is certain she will not vote for Donalds, the Republican gubernatorial nominee backed by Trump with $148 million in funds. This reflects a shift in voter behavior where some Trump supporters are not voting for the party nominee, potentially signaling a broader backlash against the party's nomination strategy.

Key points

• Florida Republican Patti Zirhut voted for President Donald Trump in 2016, 2020, and 2024 but is now voting for a mix of Republicans, independents, and Democrats in 2024.
• Donalds, the Republican gubernatorial nominee, has Trump's endorsement, the party's backing, and $148 million in campaign funds, much of which is linked to Trump's campaign.

Context

Florida's 2024 gubernatorial election saw a shift in voter behavior where some Trump supporters are not voting for the party nominee, potentially signaling a broader backlash against the party's nomination strategy. This development could impact the election outcome and the party's ability to mobilize its base effectively.

Limitations
