Briefings

Microsoft released Windows 11 preview KB5127936 on October 29, 2026, to address the right-click menu issue that disrupted command locations. The update includes a 'customize menu' button allowing users to toggle built-in commands like Send To and Create Shortcut, and rearrange the main menu. It also introduces Cloud Rebuild, a cloud-based recovery option that reinstalls Windows 11 directly from Windows Update without requiring external media. The release coincided with Microsoft's quarterly report showing a decline in Windows license sales for new PCs.

Key points

• Windows 11 preview KB5127936 was released on October 29, 2026, to fix the right-click menu that obscured command locations.
• Users can now toggle built-in commands such as Send To and Create Shortcut, and rearrange the main menu via a new 'customize menu' button.

Context

The update addresses a long-standing user complaint where the right-click menu hid familiar commands behind icons, requiring custom scripts to restore functionality. This follows Microsoft's quarterly report showing continued declines in Windows license sales for new PCs.

Limitations

Evidence covers only the right-click menu and Cloud Rebuild features; other improvements like Xbox mode and settings are mentioned as coming in a separate announcement. The Cloud Rebuild feature reinstalls the OS without restoring existing files or applications, and users must sanitize drives before use.
