Briefings

In July 2026, conservative election lawyer Cleta Mitchell held a private briefing with President Donald Trump and associates, where she presented a speech detailing alleged election fraud and conspiracy theories. This event marked the beginning of her pivotal role in transforming Trump's 'big lie' into a movement, as she helped draft restrictive voting laws and secured positions in swing states. Her organization, the Election Integrity Network, has since been deeply integrated into Trump's second term, with key figures appointed to lead investigations and enforce voting restrictions.

Key points

Cleta Mitchell held a private video briefing with President Donald Trump and associates in July 2026, presenting a speech that detailed alleged election fraud and conspiracy theories.

The speech included allegations of over 275,000 noncitizens on state voter rolls, a claim based on work led by a former DHS official who occupied a top post at the Department of Homeland Security.

Context

This briefing occurred shortly after President Trump delivered a primetime address questioning election legitimacy, marking the start of a campaign to challenge his 2020 loss. Mitchell's involvement in this event established her as a central figure in Trump's bid to assert federal control over voting, with her organization's influence growing significantly during the second Trump administration.
