Briefings

Tesla is expanding its Powershare Home Backup feature to allow Model 3 and Model Y owners to extend home backup power beyond two days, a capability previously limited to Cybertruck users and Powerwall 3 owners. This update includes support for Powerwall 2 and Powerwall Plus, though full support for these models is not yet available. The initiative builds on existing vehicle-to-home technologies from other manufacturers like Kia, GM, and Nissan.

Key points

• Tesla's expanding Powershare Home Backup feature now allows Model 3 and Model Y owners to extend home backup power to over two days.
• Support for Powerwall 2 and Powerwall Plus is coming soon, while support for Powerwall 3 remains available for Cybertruck users.

Context

Tesla's expanding Powershare Home Backup feature allows Model 3 and Model Y owners to extend home backup power to over two days. This follows previous limitations where the feature was only available on the Cybertruck and required owning Tesla's Powerwall 3. The initiative builds on existing vehicle-to-home technologies from other manufacturers like Kia, GM, and Nissan.

Limitations

Support for Powerwall 2 and Powerwall Plus is coming soon, while support for Powerwall 3 remains available for Cybertruck users. The evidence does not specify the exact date when support for Powerwall 2 and Powerwall Plus will be available, nor does it provide specific data on the duration of backup power beyond the stated 'over two days'.
