Briefings
A Portuguese article published in October 2026 argues that a state characterized by excessive bureaucracy, technical professions, and high unemployment is fundamentally unsustainable and erroneous. The text emphasizes that increased regulations and licensing have led to more unemployed workers and emigrants, creating a cycle of dissatisfaction. The author specifically highlights that the most affected group is the technical professions, suggesting this structural imbalance drives the social instability described.
Key points
- The article identifies a specific causal chain where increased bureaucracy and licensing requirements directly lead to higher unemployment and emigration rates.
- The author explicitly names 'technical professions' as the primary demographic most negatively impacted by the described state of affairs.
Context
This finding challenges the notion of a stable modern state by highlighting a paradox where regulatory expansion creates social fragmentation. The evidence suggests that the current system prioritizes formalization over economic viability, resulting in a workforce that is increasingly marginalized and displaced.
Limitations
The evidence is a single short paragraph from a 2026 article, offering no quantitative data, dates, or specific names of institutions. The causal link between bureaucracy and unemployment is asserted by the author but not empirically verified. The text does not provide context on the broader economic or social trends, nor does it offer any forecasts or alternative explanations.
