Briefings
A 2026 Qualcomm report surveyed over 12,000 people globally, revealing that consumer appetite for personal AI in wearable devices is growing from an early adopter experiment to a critical daily habit. The study identifies a shift from single-device reliance to decentralized ecosystems where an AI agent acts as the UI across connected wearables like smartwatches, glasses, and rings. Key findings indicate 60% of users use AI weekly, with continuous wear averaging 3 to 9 hours daily. While 60-70% of respondents express interest in advanced AI, adoption is gated by high demands for privacy, security, and user control, with 60% requiring data approval before sharing. The report highlights that while hardware form factors vary, the core driver for purchase remains the device's ability to provide incremental intelligence and contextual awareness.
Key points
- 60% of global survey respondents use AI in wearables at least weekly, marking a shift from experimentation to critical daily habits.
- Continuous wear averages 3 to 9 hours daily across various wearable categories, indicating deep integration into user routines.
Context
This report, commissioned by Qualcomm Technologies, analyzes the rise of personal AI in intelligent wearables through a survey of over 12,000 people across key geographies including the U.S., U.K., Germany, India, Brazil, and China. It examines how consumers are moving away from passive accessories toward proactive, intelligent companions that act as the primary interface (UI) for their devices.
Limitations
Data is limited to a 2026 survey of over 12,000 respondents; findings reflect current consumer preferences and do not account for future market shifts or long-term adoption rates.
