Briefings
In October 2026, Ethereum's validator count dropped to 863,000 as staked ETH increased, prompting Pectra to introduce a feature allowing operators to combine balances. This reduction in overhead aims to improve network efficiency without requiring withdrawals, though the specific impact on throughput remains unquantified.
Key points
- Ethereum's validator count fell to 863,000 in October 2026 as staked ETH rose.
- Pectra introduced a validator balance combination feature to reduce network overhead.
Context
Ethereum's validator count fell to 863,000 in October 2026 as staked ETH rose. Pectra introduced a validator balance combination feature to reduce network overhead.
Limitations
The evidence does not specify the exact reduction in network overhead, the resulting throughput improvement, or the specific timeframe for the balance combination feature's implementation.
