Briefings
UbiQD Inc. secured a $200,000 grant from New Mexico's Technology & Innovation Office to develop a room-temperature quantum light source using single-photon emitters. The project will fund optical prototyping at Los Alamos headquarters, building on prior research with Los Alamos National Laboratory. UbiQD claims a portfolio of 17 US and 23 international patents, with a specific patent for a fiber-coupled broadband light source. CEO Hunter McDaniel stated the goal is to accelerate quantum computing by providing reliable, scalable light sources for quantum computers and secure communication networks.
Key points
- UbiQD Inc. received a $200,000 grant from New Mexico's Technology & Innovation Office to develop a room-temperature quantum light source.
- The project will fund optical equipment prototyping at Los Alamos headquarters, utilizing prior research with Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Context
UbiQD Inc. is a global leader in quantum dot technology and manufacturing, developing a specialized light source for quantum computing and secure communication networks. The grant supports the transition from lab research to commercial optical products, addressing the need for single-photon emitters that operate at room temperature without extreme cooling.
Limitations
The evidence is a press release from October 2026, with no additional background context provided. Specific dates for the grant award and the start of prototyping are not specified, and the project's long-term commercialization timeline remains uncertain.
