Briefings
ZuriQ and Rhonexum signed a multi-year commercial agreement in October 2026 where Rhonexum supplies cryogenic integrated-circuit technologies for ZuriQ's trapped-ion quantum computing roadmap. The initial product delivery is scheduled for the end of 2026, with future orders and technical cooperation expected. This partnership aims to reduce control-signal overhead per qubit by combining ZuriQ's trapped-ion architecture with Rhonexum's cryogenic expertise. The agreement establishes a framework for future product deployments and includes privileged access to Rhonexum's technologies.
Key points
- ZuriQ and Rhonexum signed a multi-year commercial agreement in October 2026.
- Rhonexum will supply cryogenic integrated-circuit technologies to ZuriQ for trapped-ion quantum computing.
Context
This partnership addresses a longstanding challenge in scaling trapped-ion quantum computing by reducing control-signal overhead per qubit. Both companies are based in Switzerland, with ZuriQ rooted in ETH Zurich and Rhonexum in EPFL, demonstrating how academic excellence translates into commercial partnerships to strengthen European quantum capabilities.
Limitations
The evidence is limited to a press release from October 2026. Specific deployment timelines beyond the end of 2026 are not confirmed. The agreement details future orders and technical cooperation are described as expected rather than confirmed facts. No additional background on the companies' prior history or specific technical specifications is provided.
