Briefings

Brazilian sports betting platforms are scheduled to close on October 6, 2026, after a mandatory withdrawal deadline of 23:59 on October 5, 2026. The government, acting under MP 1.394/2026 signed by President Lula, aims to return unwithdrawn funds to users via financial institutions. Approximately 23,000 users with regularized accounts are estimated to hold R$ 1.7 billion in balances, with R$ 15.3 billion in tax revenue collected from operators since 2025. The closure follows a crackdown on irregular sites and is part of broader economic measures targeting gambling addiction and family debt.
