Briefings

In October 2026, Manuel Castro Almeida, the Minister of Economy and Territorial Coesão, emphasized that achieving territorial coesão requires more than resource distribution alone. He highlighted that housing is essential for families, workers, and businesses, while modernizing administrative procedures must be prioritized over simply adding digital tools to existing bureaucracy. The minister also called for a review of local elected officials' status to better support public services, noting that the current government's focus on decentralization risks undermining regional coordination.
