Briefings

Palantir states it cannot remotely disable its NATO AI military system, citing no emergency buttons or access controls. This follows recent Starlink satellite service restrictions in Ukraine, which have raised European concerns about US technological dependence. The system was acquired by SHAPE in 2025 and reached full technical operational capacity in June 2026. Mosley confirmed NATO clients retain full operational control, though specific failure mechanisms remain unclear.

Key points

• Palantir executives explicitly deny the existence of emergency shutdown buttons or remote access capabilities for the NATO AI system.
• The system was acquired by SHAPE in 2025 and achieved full technical operational capacity in June 2026.

Context

The finding addresses European security concerns following Starlink satellite restrictions in Ukraine, which have disrupted military operations and raised fears of US technological dependence.

Limitations

Evidence is limited to Palantir's official statement and Reuters reporting; specific technical failure mechanisms, exact dates of system degradation, and root causes of Starlink restrictions remain unconfirmed.
