Briefings
In eastern Montana, landowner Jerry Arnold stands in harvested wheat fields, awaiting a potential financial payout from the Bridger Pipeline's proposed route. The company plans to construct a 650-mile line moving tar sands oil from Canada to Wyoming, a project Trump previously approved but halted under Biden. Arnold, who has farmed the region since the 1980s, expressed hope that a new easement payment could offset years of drought and low snowpack, though the company has not yet confirmed specific compensation amounts.
Key points
- Bridger Pipeline LLC plans to build a 650-mile pipeline transporting tar sands oil from Canada to a Guernsey, Wyoming hub.
- President Trump granted a presidential permit in October 2026, while the Biden administration previously terminated the Keystone XL project in 2021.
Context
This article details a proposed oil pipeline route through eastern Montana and eastern Wyoming, contrasting it with the 2012 Keystone XL project which was halted by the Biden administration. The story highlights the economic stakes for Montana landowners facing drought and high fuel costs, noting that Trump's approval of the project in 2026 offers a potential economic boon compared to the previous halt.
Limitations
The article provides no specific data on total pipeline costs, exact landowner compensation amounts, or the final environmental review status. It also does not confirm if the preferred route will be selected or if the company has finalized survey plans.
