Briefings
In September 2026, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. fired the two vice chairs of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, a critical advisory body mandated by Congress to review scientific evidence for health insurance coverage mandates. This action follows a broader trend of eliminating scientific advisory committees, including 151 terminated in 2025 by the Trump administration. The fired vice chairs were replaced by individuals with varying degrees of sympathy for Kennedy's views and a lack of substantial expertise in immunology. The evidence indicates a systematic replacement of scientific experts with those aligned to the appointee's unscientific positions.
