Briefings
The Brazilian government announced a five-measure package on October 13, 2026, targeting microentrepreneurs (MEIs) to reduce debt, expand investment access, and simplify regulations. Key initiatives include a proposal to forgive accumulated debts for approximately 3.6 million MEIs, extinguishing private debt claims totaling R$ 6 billion, and creating a new 'Pix MEI' program to transfer up to R$ 5 million per business for productive investment. The package also proposes increasing the MEI income tax threshold to R$ 110,000 in 2027 and R$ 140,000 in 2028, and removing the mandatory requirement to issue fiscal invoices for certain physical-person transactions. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated these measures aim to restore credit access and business growth, framing the initiative as a path to prosperity for all Brazilians.
