Briefings

Brazilian Minister Paulo Pereira announced that federal tax debt forgiveness for microenterprise individuals (MEIs) is a necessary fiscal measure. This policy, part of the Prospera Mei initiative, aims to restore formal business activity and potentially increase federal revenue by up to R$ 4 billion. The program, initiated by President Lula, allows eligible MEIs to settle debts exceeding R$ 12 billion, with nearly 86% classified as difficult or impossible to recover. Key reforms include a new R$ 110 million annual revenue cap for 2027, automatic debt forgiveness for debts over R$ 12 billion, and a Pix MEI subsidy of up to R$ 5 million for business investments.
