Briefings
A new quantum algorithm using the Hopf ansatz enables efficient backpropagation by mapping quantum state derivatives to computational labels via controlled reflections. The method achieves logarithmic overhead for global parameter updates and supports checkpoint variants for partial gradient recovery, with execution counts scaling as O(log log M) for the global method.
Key points
- The Hopf ansatz constructs any normalized pure state using nested two-way magnitude splits and leaf phases, with one directly programmed angle per split or phase.
- A phase-calibrated controlled reflection maps each normalized magnitude direction to a computational label, ensuring every all-X outcome contributes to every magnitude derivative.
Context
This research addresses the challenge of turning access to selected quantum derivatives into a shared finite-shot record for complete vector backpropagation, utilizing the Hopf ansatz as the foundational setting for state construction and gradient mapping.
Limitations
The evidence is limited to the arXiv preprint v1, which lacks experimental validation or empirical results. The paper presents theoretical bounds and algorithmic overheads rather than observed performance metrics or real-world application data.
