Briefings
Preethi Ashwath, an analog integrated circuit designer at Analog Devices, stepped from behind the scenes to speak at CES, demonstrating her new wearable earbuds that monitor heart and lung vibrations. She was selected to represent the company after a senior leader encouraged her to pursue high-visibility roles, and she received the company's Impact Award for her work on a critical project. Her role involves designing ESD protection structures for mixed-signal circuits to prevent field failures. The article highlights her journey from an electronics tutor to a senior engineer, noting that about 11% of engineers in her field are women.
Key points
- Preethi Ashwath, an analog integrated circuit designer at Analog Devices, was selected to speak at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas after a senior leader encouraged her to pursue high-visibility opportunities.
- Her new wearable earbuds monitor minute vibrations from a user's heart and lungs to detect arrhythmia, fluid in the lungs, or other physiological signals buried in noise.
Context
Preethi Ashwath is an IEEE member and active volunteer with the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. She moved from an internship at Intel to a master's degree at UC Irvine before joining Analog in 2024, where she focuses on ESD protection for mixed-signal circuits. Her work involves designing circuit building blocks and verifying their integrity before integration.
Limitations
The article provides limited background on Ashwath's career path prior to Intel and does not specify the exact number of attendees at CES or the specific date of the award presentation.
