Briefings
A user named UrsaAstrophotography captured the International Space Station transiting the Moon on October 28, 2026, at 1:14:04.58 AM. The ISS passed through Earth's shadow, creating dark silhouettes against the Moon's 94% illumination. The transit lasted 0.55 seconds with the station at 455.96 km distance, photographed using a SVBONY MK127 telescope and ZWO ASI533MC Pro camera. The image was submitted to r/space with 1,986 frames captured.
Key points
- The International Space Station transited the Moon on October 28, 2026, at 1:14:04.58 AM, appearing as a dark silhouette against the Moon's 94% illuminated surface.
- The transit occurred in Earth's shadow with a duration of 0.55 seconds, resulting in a 3008x3008 RAW8 SER image captured at 16.00 fps with 350x gain.
Context
This event represents a rare opportunity to photograph the ISS passing through Earth's shadow, providing a unique silhouette effect. The specific timestamp and distance metrics allow for precise reconstruction of the transit geometry.
Limitations
The evidence is limited to a single user submission from r/space with 1,986 frames. No other observers or independent verification of the exact moment or location is provided in the source.
