Briefings
In late September 2026, President Trump signed an executive order renaming 'artificial intelligence' to 'Super Intelligence' to reflect a view that AI systems amplify human ingenuity rather than merely imitate it. This rebrand, which Trump previously used to rename the Gulf of America, has become a political loyalty test, with government agencies adopting the term while some, like the Pentagon, reverted to 'AI'. Tech executives including Zuckerberg and Musk have pledged to use the term, yet widespread adoption remains limited, with many organizations still using 'AI'. The initiative faces criticism for potential costs and delays in government implementation.
Key points
- President Trump signed an executive order in late September 2026 renaming 'artificial intelligence' to 'Super Intelligence' to signal that AI systems amplify human ingenuity rather than merely imitate intelligence.
- Tech executives including Sundar Pichai, Dario Amodei, Mark Zuckerberg, Greg Brockman, Elon Musk, and Jensen Huang signed a nonbinding White House Accord on Super Intelligence, though widespread adoption remains limited as many organizations continue using 'AI'.
Context
This briefing covers the Trump administration's 2026 executive order to rename 'artificial intelligence' to 'Super Intelligence' as a loyalty test for government and tech sectors, with limited evidence on public adoption and implementation costs.
Limitations
Evidence is limited to a single executive order and a nonbinding tech statement; widespread adoption of 'Super Intelligence' remains unverified, and specific implementation timelines for government agencies are not fully detailed.
